Harry Potter star, Rupert Grint, who plays Ron in the wizarding movies, was enjoying his second Reading Festival experience with his sister and friends.
He said: “Arcade Fire were amazing and Libertines were quite special, this year seems to be much more about the music, it’s great. Reading is my favourite festival it always seems to be quite an adventure and every year is different.”
There were plenty of Reading vetrans in the crowd, but some were not as obvious as others. Caversham girls, four-year-old Esmé and two-year-old Elsie Vugler were enjoying their fourth and second Reading Festival experience respectively with their parents.
Their mother, Sarah Vugler, said: “The girls love it, they get so much attention when we go out and about and everyone’s really good spirited when they see the kids.
“Trash Talk has been the highlight this year, watching bass player Spencer climbing up the rigging was just insane, they’re the most dangerous guys in punk. They wanted to take Esmé on the stage and we said no way.
“But it was a real shame that Axl Rose (from Guns n’ Roses) let everyone down on the first night. There were so many people with Guns n’ Roses shirts on really ready to enjoy that, to see him start late and then storm off stage was really bad etiquette.”
Other festivalgoers shared the same sentiments about a disappointing set from the American rockers.
Hayley Butler from Reading was with a group celebrating a friend’s birthday in fancy dress. She said: “You can tell Axl that we don’t like him any more, he can stay away, and not to come back, he was terrible.”
The highlights for the colourful group included Pendulum, Arcade Fire, General Fiasco and Reading band, Amy’s Ghost.
Birthday girl Kate Goddard said: “We came to see everything, the thing about this year’s festival is that there’s been a lot of older bands who have come back so that’s been really nice.”
Toby Lawton, 18, from Windsor is a keen festivalgoer and was enjoying his final muddy weekend of the summer. He said: “I came here to see Paramore the most and Pendulum were also really great last night. It’s always a good atmosphere, it’s Reading!”
