POLICE are hunting a gambler who viciously beat up a young man in Katesgrove.

A man believed to be of Eastern European broke off from playing on a games machine at Coral Bookmakers in Whitley Street at 8.30pm last Thursday to follow a 27-year-old man to the Post Office further down the street where he punched him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him in the head.

The victim suffered a broken nose and black eye and was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he needed an operation for his wounds.

The attacker is white, aged 25-30, around 5ft 10ins tall, of solid build and has short light hair. He wore knee-length beige shorts and a lime green polo shirt, possibly of Fred Perry brand, and walked off towards Whitley.

Witnesses should contact PC Harry Dorey on the police non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
