FIREFIGHTERS are warning about the dangers of trespassing in derelict buildings after arsonists broke into disused flats today.

A crew from Dee Road fire station went to a boarded up three-storey flat in Spey Road, Tilehurst, at 4pm, to find wooden boards and a pile of paper smouldering in a second-floor room.

They put out the burning materials in minutes, but watch manager Steve Trenery said: "Derelict buildings are a hazards in themselves with lots of disconnected power points and sharp objects and it's very dangerous to enter them."

Witnesses should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
