Sonning Bridge re-opens

SONNING Bridge has re-opened to traffic.

The Playhatch road into Sonning from the A4155 Henley Road was shut before Christmas after the River Thames burst its banks.

It re-opened for a few days, but was closed again on December 27, after heavy downpours flooded the area.

Oxfordshire County Council confirmed the bridge has been partly open from one end since 4pm yesterday, although water levels in the area are still high.

Were you affected by the closure? Let us know below.

To clarify one point. Sonning Bridge was open in the run up to Christmas and didn't close until Boxing Day - I went through there Boxing Day morning but it had closed by the evening. Then we had the ridiculous situation where Oxfordshire Highways reopened the road yesterday afternoon, and while the BBC etc were telling drivers that the road was open again, it seemed no one informed Wokingham Council who kept their closure signs in place until this morning.

my 4x4 went through without a problem, saw a few "normal cars" abandoned in the water, and people say 4x4's are of no use lol

What a peaceful village Sonning would be if there was a 'third' bridge!
